Comforter Sets and Bedding Sets - What Differences Between Them You Should Know

By Lesia C. Toles

I think a lot people do not clear about the difference between a bedspread and a comforter set, and when we buy bedding sets, we would pay more attention to the item itself rather than the detailed category it belongs to. There are definitely some obvious differences between these two and you should take them into consideration when you selecting comforters and bedding sets.

Only by understanding the difference would you find the type that is just right for you. Obviously, the pattern will also make a difference, but many realize that they can find a pattern they love in either style. It's just a matter of looking.

Size is would be the first thing that should be considered when shopping for comforters and bedding. Bedspreads are in most cases larger than comforters for the same size bed. Comforters only cover some of the bed while a bedspread will cover the entire thing. This isn't always of importance to you until you sleep in your bed the first night and your spouse steals all of the covers. If you have a spouse who likes to hog the covers, the bedspread may be the better choice. Also, with comforters, you might decide to purchase a bed skirt to cover the area left bare by the comforter. Take this into consideration.

The next difference is that a bedding set is mainly utilized for decoration of the room while a comforter set is used for warmth, which is more used at winter. As for material, bedspreads are usually made of a thin material and comforters are commonly thick and fluffy. Therefore, people prefer to use a bedspread during hot months and a comforter instead when it's cold outside. How you like to sleep, hot or cold could also influence your choice when selecting. You can add a blanket to keep warm during the cooler months if you insist on a bedspread. As I have said before, you can certainly get the idea that bedspreads are more of a decorative product rather than one that serves a purpose. You need to bear this in mind when deciding on comforters and bedding.

For most, the choice between comforters and bedding sets is all a matter of personal taste. Size and usage may come into play, but not in all cases. When you go shopping, your first priority should be finding something you love. A bedroom is a place to relax and wind down after a long, hard day. Make sure yours is one in which you will feel comfortable. That should always be your top priority.
