Why Utilize An Innovative Self-Defense Versus Enemies

By Gearld A Potlorck

One of my tasks being a self-defense trainer would be to teach rookie cops in the use of protective tools like batons, stun guns and pepper spray. I specialize in training non-lethal submission techniques utilizing these devices.

In the beginning, we utilized a standard type of pepper spray which was in liquid form. We observed that some of the excess spray could be wiped away to dampen the effect. To enhance effectiveness, we started utilizing Mace pepper gel in class.

Pepper spray is a non-lethal self-defense tool built to incapacitate an attacker. It does this by causing a painful burning experience in the eyes as well as on the skin of anyone that it hits.

The effects of a defense spray are temporary and last only around 45 minutes. They don't cause any irreversible damage to an attacker although the effects should be powerful enough to give you enough time to escape an assailant and ask for help.

The gel pepper spray which I utilize is unique in that the pepper spray is suspended in gel. This gives it a few noteworthy advantages. First, the pepper spray is stronger since it is concentrated into a gel form.

Second, because it is a gel, the stream doesn't disperse, giving it a much better range. The gel also sticks like glue to a target, making it difficult to wipe off. Furthermore, there isn't any danger of it flying back into your face because of winds.

I specifically make use of one which contains 45 grams of spray. These are more than enough for 7 one-second-long bursts that can hit a target approximately 18 feet away. Moreover, it came with a special flip-top cap that was made to prevent unintentional discharge.

All of my students have noted that they're happy with the Mace pepper gel that I showed them and we learned with. In fact, it has proven to be equally as effective in the field as its regular, liquid-based counterpart.
